Yokohama Motomachi Tradition and RENGESO

The history of Yokohama Furniture all began when the port of Yokohama was opened to world

Japanese furniture craftsman started to repair western furniture

and their original pieces were later known to be called the "Motomachi Furniture"

The town of Motomachi once held over 30 furniture shops

Our founder Katsuhito Uchida had trained in Takenaka furniture

which was one of the legacy workshops of Motomachi Furniture

since Takenaka left the industry he was told to be the last craftsman

to inherit the true craftsmanship of Motomachi Furniture

it is his mission to pass them with RENGESO

We are proud to announce that RENGESO is supporting over 250 "Motomachi Furniture"

by remaking/repairing them which are displayed and preserved

in the Yamate Western-Style Buildings with Yokohama Greenery Foundation
